About the Project

From Black Power to Pan-Africanism: The Kwame Ture Archive
Project Grant

The Kwame Ture Archive is composed of the collected documentary material related to Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael), a central figure of the Civil Rights, Black Power, Pan-African, and Third World liberation movements from the 1960s through the 1990s. The archive includes pamphlets, meeting minutes, unpublished writings, notebooks, letters, books, and photographs collected throughout Ture’s years of global political organizing. These materials document Ture’s work in social movements alongside Martin Luther King Jr., Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Yasser Arafat, Kwame Nkrumah and Miriam Makeba. Through digitization, this array of rare and unique materials document historic and revolutionary events will be preserved and made accessible for students, scholars, and activists.
