About the Project

Preserving Political Cartoons in Guinea: The Archives of Le Lynx
Project Grant

Le Lynx is a weekly satirical Guinean newspaper. Founded in 1992 by a prominent dissident, it is Guinea’s oldest independent media outlet. The materials to be digitized are print newspapers from the newspaper’s own archive, held in an office space in Conakry, Guinea and containing the entire back collection of issues, from 1992 to the present. From 1992 to 2016, there is only one copy of each issue in the archive.

This collection represents the only independent source of documentation of Guinean news from within the country across the last quarter century, and the only collection of Guinean political cartoons.
