About the Project
Digitizing and curating of Eloyi audio cassette recordings
Project Grant
Like other minority languages in Nigeria, Eloyi cultural heritage is at risk due to assimilation by dominant cultures and lack of concerted effort and funding to preserve it. Eloyi traditional music from the mid to late 20th century formed part of its scanty existing records. However, these recordings are only stored in obsolete cassettes currently inaccessible to the public. The aim of this project is to digitize and make public this musical heritage which may otherwise be lost forever. The completed project would inspire preservation of cultural and historical materials amongst the minority groups and take digitization technology closer to people and cultures who need them most.
