About the Project
In the 1980’s, the Center of African Studies at Eduardo Mondlane University (CEA) became a new African hub for transnational activism and knowledge production. 350 audio-cassettes, recently found in the center’s basement, reflect that vibrant and prolific intellectual life. This archive contains oral history, recording of political speeches, and lectures by various local and international scholars. This project will rescue these important records of Mozambique’s intellectual history. This project will produce an inventory and pilot digitization of the material found by the CEA, focusing particularly on the Mozambique socialist era (1975-1990).
