Citizen Action for the Defense of Human Rights in Chile: Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos

The Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Chile holds collections that document the denunciation, protection, prosecution and fight against the dictatorship in Chile as well as the effort to recover democracy.

This project focused on digitization for four personal collections: Raúl Ampuero, Marcelo Croxatto, Sergio Insunza and Patricia Verdugo. These collections includes minutes of meetings, correspondence, brochures, legal documents, press, publications, flyers, posters and audiovisuals. These materials were created between 1973 and 1990, in Chile and abroad.

These records give an account of the unrestricted commitment to the defense of human rights and are important to be shared publicly because the younger generations that did not live through the Coup d’état nor the dictatorship, should know the lives of these people who, from their respective disciplines and professional tasks, committed their lives to the indefatigable mission of respect for the human condition at all possible levels.

El objetivo del proyecto es disponer al acceso público y de acuerdo con estándares de descripción internacionales, un conjunto documental, compuesto por los fondos de Raúl
Ampuero, Marcelo Croxatto, Sergio Insunza y Patricia Verdugo, los cuales evidencian las acciones personales destinadas a colaborar en la denuncia, protección, enjuiciamiento y
lucha en contra de la dictadura en Chile, para recuperar la democracia.

Estos conjuntos documentales se generaron entre el 1973 y 1990, en Chile y en el extranjero y se han conservado en poder de sus creadores o recopiladores. Algunos de
ellos han viajado al exilio y una vez retornada la democracia, han vuelto al país para ser donados al Museo.

Esta digitalización nos permitió disponibilizar el 64 % de los documentos digitalizados en nuestro Archivo de Fondos y Colecciones debidamente descritos de acuerdo estándares
internacionales.
