About the Project
The project will digitize a full run of the weekly magazine Élite (1925-1998). As a cultural, social, and political weekly, Élite chronicles the birth and development of Venezuelan democracy over seven decades. The collection is compiled in bound volumes and in fragile condition in need of preservation. Digitizing and creating online access to the magazine will provide insight into the social changes, political dynamics, and democratic aspirations of Venezuela’s society during the twentieth century. The magazine published multiple perspectives and voices across this time period and preserves an important view into discourse related to the democratic process in Venezuela. Élite’s high-quality photographs are also of great value.
