About the Project

Building Democracy: Culture, Political Rights and Social Transformations in Venezuela’s Twentieth Century as seen through the weekly magazine Élite (1925-1998)
Project Grant

The weekly magazine Élite (1925-1998) reflects the social changes, political dynamics, and democratic aspirations of Venezuela’s society during the twentieth century. It chronicles the birth and development of Venezuelan democracy over the course of seven decades. As a cultural, social, and political weekly, it provides insights into this democratic process through contrasting perspectives. Élite’s high-quality photographs are also of great value.
