An Intermedia Hindi-Urdu Archive of Cinema in South Asia
Project Grant

This project will catalog and digitize a collection of print material on cinema, music, literature, and radio in South Asia created from 1950 until 2010. The collection includes diverse materials amassed by collectors, donors, defunct and neglected libraries, and second-hand vendors in India. Built over more than 15 years, it is a people's archive consisting of fiction and non-fiction books, biographies, Hindi and Urdu newspapers, literary, film, and listeners' magazines, story-cum-song booklets, summaries, reports and reviews of films and radio programs; letters, transcriptions and recordings sent by listeners, and perishable ephemera preserved with great perseverance and difficulty.
